January 25th 2006 at 8:41 am in Animals & Nature, Freedom & Repression, Media, Religion & Politics This is a trend that I, and probably many others with me, had seen coming — Indymedia reports on Operation Backfire, an FBI operation to silence environmentalists and animal rights activists.
The nation-wide sweep of arrests, dubbed “Operation Backfireâ€, has been declared by the FBI as a major hit to environmentalists and animal rights activists who engage in destruction of property as a means to defend wilderness and lives of animals. However, many suspect that the string of arrests falls in line with decades-long FBI covert intelligence operations aimed at disrupting and discrediting political movements. Part of COINTELPRO and other intelligence agendas, the FBI has been engaged in domestic surveillance activities and have been falsely targeting political activists since the 1960s.
Of course, under the new so-called `anti-terrorism laws‘, these people can be terribly mistreated and nobody would give a fuck. (Hell, now they can execute them too.)
Yeah, people would give a fuck the moment it happened to them. If we keep ignoring and allowing the US government to do such things, it is only a matter of time before they will target you!
It’s a sad trend to see that, people who used to rebel a couple of years ago, are now considered ‘activists‘. The activists of old are now ‘terrorists‘.
Everybody not in that group are simply ‘suspects‘.
And sadly, the largest part of the population doesn’t even fucking mind.
