Nike ‘iPod’ sneakers?

# on May 24th 2006 at 12:53 pm in Computers & Hardware, Interesting Links

The Register reports on Apple and Nike teaming up to create a new iPod accessory: a pair of sneakers that talk to your iPod.

I have serious doubts about the story though (the wireless dongle, the text-to-speech), will that work on a default, non-upgraded iPod?

Anyways, it’s interesting to note that now, not only people will pull you of your bicycle when they see you wearing the white iPod headphones, now they’ll recognize the shoes, beat you up, and steal both. And all these anti-terrorism laws ain’t gonna do shit about it.

The story is legit (appearing in the WSJ today), and it follows the trend of personal wireless monitors be developed to help track health maintenance as well as chronic disease. (see the link I provided above)

Well, I didn’t doubt the complete story, I just picked the wrong words really. See, I wondered if it’d work on a standard iPod without one requiring a firmware upgrade?

It shan’t be possible that the menu, and firmware already includes all support for this Bluetooth functionality?

Cool product, nonetheless. And I still suspect more beat-ups. ;)
